Our dear and very popular art lecturer, Felicia Zavarella Stadelman, is returning this Saturday at 10:30 a.m. to continue her art lecture series!  This time the subject is Suzanne Valadon who transformed herself from an artist model into a successful artist.

Felicia’s art lectures divulge what your art history books failed to tell you.  Entitled, “Through the Eyes of the Artist”, and inspired by Felicia’s own enthusiasm, this lecture series is designed to provide a richer insight through the artist’s personal perspective.  Her education and background in art history was only the beginning of her quest for all the drama, dish and dirt that she could discover about her subjects.

Originally funded by a grant from the Cleveland Museum of Art to help bring art into the lives of school children, “Through the Eyes of the Artist” has evolved into a program for people of all ages interested in uncovering the fascinating details of the lives and works of some of our most renowned and influential artists.  For the past fifteen years, Felicia has trained over 400 art docents, and delivered art history lectures in schools and communities in Ohio, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Felicia’s lectures offer an exclusive view into the remarkable lives and times of our favorite artists.  Each presentation is enhanced with music, prints and wonderful images to help tell the story of the artist.  In addition, every member of the audience will receive an overview of the artist and a note card memento.  Add free parking, admission, coffee and donuts and you have an irresistible invitation to experience art history in an uncommon way, courtesy of Gallery One!  Our doors open at 10 – see you there!

"Through the Eyes of the Artist" art lecture series continues at Gallery One!

Last Saturday Felicia Zavarella Stadelman returned to Gallery One and her “groupies” to deliver the latest installment of her popular art lecture series. Pablo Picasso was the subject this time. Picasso's enormous output kept his name before the public, even though his work seemed to be far from the mainstream. His powers of invention and execution spanned more than 80 years.

Normally, Felicia chooses another artist to compare and contrast with the subject of the lecture. But Picasso had no such comparison. He is unique among artists. Attendees were entranced with the details of the life of this 20th century icon! Someone commented, “I didn’t know he was such a randy guy!”

Felicia will be back one Saturday every month through November with more drama, dish & dirt on the following artists:

Paul Gauguin

August 18 -- Paul Gauguin -- He created a profound sense of mystery in his work. It is often said that he painted and dreamed at the same time.


 

Jack Vettriano

September 19 -- Jack Vettriano -- His prints sell more than those by old masters such as Monet and Van Gogh and yet none of his pictures can be found in any of the country's national galleries, and he has been snubbed by the arts establishment.

Suzanne Valadon

October 27 -- Suzanne Valadon -- Transformed herself from an artist's model into a successful artist.

Michelangelo

November 17 -- Michelangelo -- Who said “Carving is easy, you just go down to the skin and stop.”

Art Lecture Series Update

Happy New Year and welcome to the second half of Gallery One's 2011-12 art lecture series!  Created by Felicia Zavarella Stadelman, the "Through the Eyes of the Artists" lecture series will let you experience art in an uncommon way, providing the drama, the dish and the dirt!  All lectures start promptly at 10:30 a.m. at Gallery One, 7003 Center Street, Mentor OH and feature complimentary coffee and donuts.

Frederick Remington

The first lecture of 2012 is set for January 28, with Frederic Remington as the subject.  Men of authority said he painted for history and recorded the vanishing America.  Find out more about this fascinating western artist and sculptor from the entertaining and enlightening Felicia.

Alphonse Mucha

On February 25, Felicia will introduce us to Alphonse Mucha.  With unforgettable images of enchanting women, streaming hair, flowing fabrics, Mucha’s work epitomizes the Art Nouveau Movement. Yet his name is barely known. He felt that art should serve as language to the viewer.  He's definitely someone we need to get to know.

George Seurat

The subject for April 28 will be George Seurat.  Pointillism called “chromo-luminarism" by Seurat dramatically influenced the course of modern art.  You won't want to miss this one!

May 26 will close the season with Mary Cassatt.  She was single-handedly responsible for introducing the Impressionists to America.  Whether you think you know the name or not, come and learn more about her.







Felicia's lectures cover the full spectrum of art genres, giving us a mini-education in art history while entertaining us with all the juicy details of the artists' lives.  I can't think of a better way for anyone to spend part of a Saturday morning.  And don't forget the coffee and donuts!

Updated Fall Calendar

Now with Carl Brenders' show, our first two art lectures and the Gallery Hop behind us, we've begun our fall series of events!  But, there's more to come!  Let's run down the calendar.
