It all started in 2012 when Gallery One owners, Norah Lynne and Alan
Brown adopted Lakeland Terrier Clancy, a rescue dog (later to be joined by
Shayna, also a rescue). Clancy fit right in with gallery operations, becoming
our official greeter and “Patron of the Arfs.”
Norah Lynne thought it would be fun to have an art exhibit for kids, inviting them to draw, paint or sculpt Clancy and then display their artwork at Gallery One, alongside famous artists. Enthusiastic community response made the exhibit, named "Cold Nose - Warm Art," a resounding success with youngsters, parents and their teachers. All of the participating young artists received recognition, and prizes were awarded by renowned artist and best-selling children's author, Dean Morrissey.

“Cold Nose – Warm Art” has since become an annual Gallery One tradition.
This highly anticipated event helps to raise awareness about the plight of rescue
and shelter animals, thanks to the involvement of the Lake Humane Society www.lakehumane.org and Marilyn’s Voice www.marilynsvoice.org, a nonprofit volunteer animal rescue
organization that fosters and re-homes puppy mill and other abused and
neglected dogs. “Cold Nose – Warm Art” has featured pets from both of these
organizations as models since 2013 in an effort to get the word out and promote
their adoption.
Kids have warmly embraced this mission by creating more than
730 original works of art for the exhibits in the past five years! Just
as heartwarming as the artwork are the handwritten descriptions that accompany each
piece: “My art portrays a dog looking at
you, happily saying, ‘Take me home.’”
“Cold Nose – Warm Art” is open to all kids, ages 4 – 18. The deadline for 2017 art submissions is 6
p.m. Friday, Nov. 3. For more info, an official entry form and pictures of
this year’s animal models, go to www.galleryone.com/ARTSHOW.html
